Teresa Hunter Announces Retirement at FHAS Housing & Homeownership Conference

Family Housing Advisory Services celebrates Hunter’s 32 years of service as its fourth annual conference draws over 130 attendees.

OMAHA, Neb. — August 27, 2026 — Family Housing Advisory Services announced that longtime Executive Director and CEO Teresa Hunter will retire effective December 31, 2026, concluding 32 years of service to the organization, including 22 years in executive leadership.

Hunter made the announcement during the opening program of FHAS’s 4th Annual Housing & Homeownership Conference, held Saturday, August 22, at the OPS TAC Building in Omaha. FHAS staff marked the announcement by presenting Hunter with roses in recognition of her leadership, service and lasting impact on the organization and the community.

The retirement announcement came during one of FHAS’s most successful annual conferences to date. The free community event welcomed approximately 130 attendees and brought together seven speakers and 23 vendors representing housing organizations, financial institutions, service providers and community partners. The August 22 conference connected residents with practical information, trusted professionals and community resources related to affordable housing, homeownership, credit improvement and financial planning.

Omaha Mayor John Ewing Jr. delivered the keynote address. Educational sessions focused on affordable housing options, pathways to homeownership and housing development opportunities

"This conference reflects what FHAS has always done best—bringing people, knowledge and resources together to help families move toward greater housing and financial stability,” Hunter said. “The strong attendance and participation demonstrate both the need for this work and the power of community partnership. I am deeply grateful to the staff, Board members, partners and supporters who have worked alongside me to strengthen housing opportunities and financial stability for families throughout our community. I am proud of what we have built together and confident that the important work of FHAS will continue.”

Founded in 1968, FHAS has served the community for more than five decades by helping individuals and families pursue safe and stable housing, homeownership and greater financial security. Under Hunter’s leadership, the organization strengthened its programs, partnerships and institutional capacity while remaining responsive to the changing housing and financial needs of the communities it serves.

“Teresa’s impact extends far beyond the years she has served as CEO,” said Tarsha Jackson, President of the FHAS Board of Directors. “Her leadership has helped establish the systems, partnerships, staff capacity and community trust that position FHAS to continue advancing its mission well into the future. The Board is committed to honoring Teresa’s extraordinary legacy while thoughtfully evaluating how to best support FHAS in its next chapter.”

Hunter will remain fully engaged through the end of the year and will support an orderly transition. FHAS programs, grant commitments, reporting requirements, partnerships and community services will continue without interruption.

FHAS extends its appreciation to the conference sponsors: Omaha Economic Development Corporation, American National Bank, Veridian Credit Union, U.S. Bank, Cobalt Credit Union, Omaha 100, Hayes Cares and Northwest Bank.
