Tenant Services Program offers homeless prevention, relocation counseling, and housing search assistance and advocacy to assist persons to avoid homelessness & locate permanent housing.
The Fair Housing Center of Nebraska offers housing discrimination investigations, education and training. Fair Housing – Provides comprehensive fair housing services, including intake and investigation of housing discrimination complaints, and consumer and industry education statewide in Nebraska and in Western Iowa.
Homeowner Education Program offers pre-purchase education, foreclosure prevention, and reverse equity mortgage options for seniors. Prepares persons to purchase homes and understand their credit and the home buying process through an intensive, 12-hour workshop and individual counseling and assistance.
Foreclosure Prevention counsels and advocates for persons involved in foreclosure, negotiating workout agreements with lenders and addressing predatory lending practices when they are present. With today’s foreclosure crisis, there is a great demand for these services. Reverse Equity Mortgage Education – counsels and assists elderly persons regarding the use of home equity as a resource to supplement their income.
Financial/Asset Management offers financial fitness education and the IDA (Individual Development Accounts) Program. This program provides financial management, budgeting, credit and saving, promoting understanding of responsible and effective use of credit through workshops and individual credit counseling.
Omaha Earned Income Tax Credit (EITC) Coalition promotes the claiming of tax credits through quality volunteer tax return preparation with a goal of providing educational tools and community resources for family asset development. FHAS acted as a VITA (Volunteer Income Tax Assistance) Site during the 2008 tax season, preparing nearly 400 tax returns, a number of clients who used their refunds to pay off debts, and over 25 un-banked clients opened checking or savings accounts. FHAS was a unique part of the VITA sites because it offered clients access to credit reports and its financial education during the “teachable moment” during the tax season.
